About
Aliyah has made a successful career as an academic, having obtained a master's degree in Sociology from the University of Notre Dame and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Washington - Seattle. Aliyah's research and teaching spans topics of race, gender, place and power and uses frameworks and methods that are responsive to the needs of marginalized communities.The experiences that Aliyah has gained both in the academy and personally throughout her upbringing on the South Side of Chicago have influenced her desire to support communities, teams, non-profits, and large-scale institutions of power become accountable to facilitating large-scale social change and transformation.A.F.T. Consulting LLC aims to help individuals, businesses, and legal entities develop sustainable and effective tools and resources that can help them feel empowered to become agents for social change and collective impact.My consulting expertise has involved developing research agendas and teaching toolkits, course and webinar construction, writing state-level reports, website building, resume building and brand management, qualitative data analysis, descriptive statistics analysis, disproportionality analysis, construction of assessment tools and evaluation metrics, editorial work on a variety of materials from academic articles and book manuscripts to op-eds and creative pieces, as well as advocacy model development rooted in anti-racism, intersectionality, and Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEI) in practice.I've consulted on projects for major entities including, The Public Defender's Association (WA State), Minority and Justice Commission, Washington State Center for Court Research, University of Notre Dame, and Co-LEAD (an adaptation of the Law Enforcement Assisted Diversion) program.Note: Majority of the consulting work A.F.T Consulting LLC takes on is remote; however, we will consult on projects in person if they are based in the Midwest, specifically the Greater Chicago Metro and Northwest Indiana region. Other locations will be considered for a travel stipend or mileage reimbursement and lodging (if needed).
